August 29, 1943 – July 1, 2025
Wai Hing Chan Lee, passed away on July 1st, 2025 at the age of 81. She was the beloved wife of the late Shu Keung Lee, a loving mother to Lawrence (Jerry Steele) Lee, Annie (Peter) Ing, Julie (Armand) Abad, Connie (Trey) Tharp, and Norman (Julie) Lee. She was also a cherished grandmother to Amanda, Desiree, Olivia (Kyle), Vincent, Jessica, Lucas, and Willow, as well as a great grandmother to Ayla. She is preceded in death by her husband in 2018 and her 4 siblings. Wai Hing was a passionate music teacher in Hong Kong and immigrated to the United States in 1973. She and her husband owned and operated the iconic South Side Chinese restaurant, Tai Sam Yon, on 63rd Street for 25 years. After selling the restaurant, she worked as the activity director at St. Agnes Health Center where she brought joy to residents through song and art. Her joy was being an avid Chicago Bulls fan, trying her luck at the casinos, and spending time with family. It is her dedication and love for her family for which she will be most remembered.
A visitation will be held at Dalcamo Funeral Home, 470 W. 26th St, Chicago, IL 60616, on Thursday, July 17, from 3pm – 8pm, with a funeral service Friday, July 18 from 9am – 10:30am, followed by a private ceremony for the family at the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
