Obituary

Beloved mother, Shan Ling Wang 1936-2023

Shan Ling Wang passed away during surgery in Swedish Hospital in Chicago on 10/25/23.

Memorial and viewing was held on Oct 31, 2023 at 12:30pm at Dalcamo Funeral Home.

She was born in a small town in Guangdon Province, China. Like many in her generation, by the time she turned 12, she already experienced two horrific wars and had to escape from her homeland.  After a few stops and separated from the rest of her family for a while, her family eventually gathered up and settled in Taiwan.  But life on the island was hard at that time.  After marriage and having 2 sons, she followed her husband, an electrical engineer to Hong Kong for better economic opportunities.  They made it home there for a long time and raised 3 children.  After her husband died, she came to Chicago for the education and job opportunities of her children and planned to stay for the rest of her years.  She enjoyed the open space and diversity in Chicago.  She especially loved her three sons and always put their needs above her own.

She is always wise, kind, caring and always eager to help others.  Among her siblings, she was always the one who helped her own mother to cook and do chores.  This was how she learnt all the recipes and the family customs from her own mother. Her family and friends always enjoyed her cooking, especially her specialties during Chinese holidays such as Zongzi for Dragon Boat Festival and Rice Cake and Turnip Cake for Lunar New Year.

She is survived by her 3 sons, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, a sister in Canada and another sister in Australia and many admiring friends.
