Robert/Bob "Hot Ding" Chan was born on July 22, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Kung Zen Chan and Yung Shee Chan. During World War II, he served two tours of duty in the United States Army, stationed in Burma, and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal. Upon his return to the United States, Robert was a stone cutter for 21 years. He married Edith on October 29, 1953, and had three children, Gary, Russell, and Lisa.
Bob was a great patriot with strong work ethics and family values. He enjoyed road trips to Houston to visit relatives, was an active member of the Chinatown American Legion Post 1003 and enjoyed cooking for his family. In his later years, he enjoyed walking his constant companion dogs Little Guy, Hildie, and Buddy. He spent many hours with his loving granddaughter Kiana.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife Edith, his son Gary (Tauna), daughter Lisa, granddaughter Kiana, sisters-in-law Mae Jean and Kathy, seven nephews and nieces, Sharon, Walter, Linda, Warren, William Stewart, Audrey, Melissa, and 15 great and great-great nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his son Russell, parents, and seven siblings, Jimmo, Nimmo, Soo Hing, Mabel, Bing, Evelyn, and John.
Visitation Monday, November 4, 2019 from 4 PM to 9 PM at the Dalcamo Funeral Home 470 West 26th Street. Remembrance service on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 7:45 PM. Visitation Tuesday, November 5, 2019 from 9 AM to 11 AM. Chapel Funeral Service Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 11 AM. Interment Mount Auburn Cemetery.
