Minsheng Hou, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at Rush Hospital in the early afternoon of May 13, 2026. She was 93 years old, and was born on June 12, 1933, in Taigu, Shanxi Province of China. She was the daughter of Xifu Hou and Yude Guo. Minsheng passed the first nationwide college examination and was accepted to Shanxi University in Shanxi Province in 1952 where she met her husband, Yi Zhang. She transferred to Nanjing Teachers’ University in Jiangsu Province in 1955 and graduated in 1957. She became a Chinese language arts teacher at Xinhua High School in Yangzhou of Jiangsu Province. In 1961, she moved to Guangzhou, Guangdong province with her family and worked at Guangzhou Teachers’ college as a Chinese lecturer. She started teaching at #25 High School in 1964. Then, taught at Bayi School and retired from there in 1989. Through her 32 years of teaching, she impacted several thousands of lives. Her and her students kept in touch through WeChat. She immigrated to the United States in 2010 to reunite with her daughters. She spent fifteen years of every Thursday and Friday at the "Chinese Service League Adult Day Care Center” and gained a lot of love and respect from the staff and her friends.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Xiaoxi Zhang and her husband, Gucheng Li; son, Xiaosu Zhang and his wife, Liping Luo; daughter, Xiaoyang Zhang and her husband, Yikuang Li; daughter, Xiaodong Zhang and her husband, Neilong Lyang; granddaughter, Yin Li, grandson, Jiasheng Li and his wife, Zengqi Zheng; grandson, Jiaqi Zhang and his wife, Jingwen Wong; grandsons, Charles Lyang and Jeffrey Lyang; great grand daughters, Peixin Li and Koey Li.
Visitation and funeral service, Thursday May 21, 2026 will be from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM and a service of remembrance will be at 5:30 PM on at Dalcamo Funeral Home, 470 W. 26th Street, Chicago, IL 60616.
Everyone is invited to join the family to celebrate and honor her life. After the service, dinner will be held at Evergreen Restaurant at 2411 S Wentworth Ave, Chicago, IL 60616.
侯敏生,一位深受爱戴的母亲、祖母/外婆及太婆,于2026年5月13日下午1时零3分,在拉什医院(RUSH HOSPITAL)安详辞世。享年93。她出生于1933年6月12日,籍贯中国山西省太谷县,是侯希孚与郭玉德之女。1952年,侯敏生参加第一届全国高校统考,考入山西大学中文系,并在此结识了她的丈夫——张毅。1955年,她转学至江苏省南京师范学院,并于1957年毕业。随后,她任教于江苏省扬州市新华中学,担任语文教师。1961年,她随家人迁居广东省广州市,并在广州师范学院担任中文讲师。1964年,她开始在广州市第25中学任教;此后又转至八一学校执教,并于1989年从该校退休。在32年的教师生涯中,她影响了几千名学生的人生。时至今日,仍有许多学生通过微信与她保持着联系。
她于2010年移居美国与女儿们团聚。在“华人咨询服务处长者中心”度过了十五年美好的时光,并从工作人员及朋友们那里收获了满满的爱与尊重。
侯敏生身后留下了深爱她的亲人:女儿张小西及其丈夫李谷城;儿子张小苏及其妻子罗莉萍;女儿张小扬及其丈夫李奕宽;女儿张小东及其丈夫梁内荣;外孙女李茵;外孙李家盛及其妻子郑增琪;孙子张家棋及其妻子黄静雯;外孙梁家超与梁家辉;以及曾孙女李培欣与李可怡。
亲友瞻仰遗容的时间为2026年5月21日星期四下午3:00至5:30,追思仪式将于下午5:30,在 DALCAMO 殡仪馆(地址:470 W. 26TH STREET, CHICAGO, IL 60616)举行。
