Obituary

Kenneth Chu, 90, of Chicago, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024 following a recent diagnosis of Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia.

Kenneth was the beloved husband of Pui Ying Yuen Chu, and the loving father of the late Mannie (Josephine) Chu, the late Barry (Pauline) Chu, and Susan (Charles) Lee.  He was the devoted son of the late Kow Ging Gee and late Kam Oi Chan Gee, and brother of the late Kin Chui Gee Chan.  Kenneth was the adoring grandfather of Trina, Lenny, Naomi, Daniel, Gary, Nathan, and Aaron and was the cherished great grandfather of Morgan, Madison, Aiden, Evan, Harper, and Casey.

Born on May 14, 1934, Kenneth was the youngest child of Kow Ging and Kam Oi.  He lived in China before moving to Hong Kong in 1962. After six years, he embarked on a journey that took him around the world, ultimately leading him to the United States, where he aspired to build a strong foundation for his family and future generations.

Kenneth and Pui Ying were high school sweethearts who shared over 70 years together.  They had three beautiful children: Mannie, Barry, and Susan.  Kenneth made great personal sacrifices, leaving his wife and children in Hong Kong for nearly five years while he worked low-paying jobs in the United States. He worked hard to save enough money to bring his family to the U.S. with the hope of a better education and life.  He was a devoted family man, passionate about gardening, and experienced a lifetime of adventure.  He lived each day with a smile on his face, and touched all of the lives that crossed his path.  He will be forever missed.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Kenneth Chu during a visitation to be held on September 7, 2024 from 9:00-11:00 AM at Dalcamo Funeral Home, 470 West 26th Street, Chicago, IL 60616.  This gathering will be an opportunity to share stories, offer condolences, and find peace in knowing that he is no longer suffering.  Procession will follow the Funeral Home to Mount Auburn Cemetery at 4101 S. Oak Park Avenue, Stickney, IL 60402.
