Obituary

Dip Bon Chin, born December 22, 1927, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024, just two months short of his 97th birthday in his home in Chinatown. The day before his passing he was blessed with a great grandson, Mack Riley Morrice. This was his eighth great-grandchild with another on the way, expected around his birthday. Bon/Ba was married to two amazing women. He married his first wife Su and they had four children. While they both loved the Chinese people and their traditions, they made the decision to leave China to escape Communism. To facilitate the escape, they had to leave Pauline, at the age of six, behind.  Pauline was left with her grandmother, Ba's mother, in a small village called Taishan.  The family expected their separation would last for a few years at most but it took twenty three years before the family was able to reunite with Pauline and grandmother. The rest of the family escaped to Hong Kong and lived there for several years. Ba's older sister was able to sponsor them to come to Franklin Park, a suburb of Illinois. Ba worked long hours at their restaurant and Ma worked in their "Chinese Hand Laundry". The family lived in back of the laundry for twelve years until they saved enough money to buy a small house in Franklin Park. Once the family was reunited and all of the children were older and working … times were good. The children married and all stayed in the Chicago suburbs. The family enjoyed large Christmas and 4th of July celebrations. Soon there were grandchildren. Ba enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially fishing with them. He loved his birthday celebrations and playing card games for a small pot of money. He won more times than not. He laughed and truly enjoyed every family gathering. Su/Ma suffered a stroke soon after she retired. Ba and her children took great care of her. She passed away much too early and is missed. After grieving the loss of Ma, Ba went to China looking for love. Lucky for all of us, he found Qiu/Sim. She is a wonderful grandmother to many grandchildren. The Chin Family also benefited from joining her family. Sim's children, Weber (son), Christina (daughter-in-law) and their children Ryton and Hugo have visited often from Canada. Also, Yuan (daughter) and Peter (son-in-law) and their daughter Kelly have also visited from the United Kingdom. Both families were just in over this summer. Ba loved sharing meals and spending time with them. Ba loved and appreciated Sim. He said Sim took such good care of him which allowed him to be in great health and live many extra years. He was healthy and relatively active until just a few days before he passed away. Dip Bon Chin was preceded in death by his wife, Su, and his great-granddaughter, Isla Mui-Krause. He is survived by his wife Qiu/Sim and children Jim Tau (Jan), Pauline Mui (Tin), Pui Morrice (Scott), and Lop Chin (Ellyn). Cherished grandfather to Jason Tau (Daniela), Jana Bidle (Chris), Jared Tau, Haley Mui (Rachel), Keeley Mui (Tim Krause), Ricky Morrice (Kristen), Amanda Leon (Robbie), Danielle Jordan (Grant), Jacob Chin, and Jessica Chin. Great grandfather to Wyatt, Stella, Jayna, Eliana, Violet, Cora and Mack.

Private services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 initiating at the Dalcamo Funeral Home, 470 West 26th Street, Chicago, IL followed by interment at Mt. Auburn.Cemetery.
